EGR valve in 2.0HDi (Peugeot Citroen), 2.0TDCi (Ford) and 2.0D (Volvo) engine is responsible for emission, shorter engine warm up time, smoother turning off and VNT turbocharger spool down on idle. Usually P0401/402 are to do with a bad DPFE sensor. What you can do to test if it really is giving too much flow is pulling the vacuum tube off the top of the egr and feel for suction at idle. There should be none. If there is then you need to replace the EVR valve (EGR vacuum solenoid). 99% of the time the DPFE sensor must be replaced though.

Check for vacuum leaks, especially the elbow where the PCV plumbing connects to the throttle body, it is know to crack. If you had a bad EGR valve, first, the check-engine light SHOULD come on (but might not). If it wasn't working, you wouldn't have a bad idle, you'd more than likely have pinging. Step 3. Locate and remove the two bolts on the base of the EGR valve with a socket and ratchet and then remove the valve and gasket from the engine. Discard the old valve and place a new valve on the engine, making sure to install a new gasket between the valve and engine.
Rkuga11 Discussion starter. 6 posts · Joined 2021. #1 · Jul 12, 2021. Had a new EGR fitted to my 2011 Diesel by my normal excellent Mech. Ford now issue an EGR without the sensor. For some reason Ford removed it. Had to take the car on to a Ford dealers to see if it required and up date. EM light remained on until update.
